In 1996/7 The Australian Lung Foundation convened a National Summit of eminent Physicians and Researchers to determine the national research priorities for 9 categories of Lung Disease. This involved intensive workshop discussions followed by an open presentation to a broader audience of interested individuals and groups, with invited participation and comment.

The objectives of the summit were to produce a document which gave direction and focus to national priorities and initiatives in research while reassuring prospective investors of the worthiness and importance of research into lung disease.
