Cochrane Review Scholarship
This scholarship is valued at Aus$1,500 and is specifically designed to assist a medical undergraduate in undertaking a research project into lung cancer. A scholarship of up to $1,500 will be offered to an undergraduate in 2009 to study Evidence-Based Medicine. This ALF award is aimed at providing a systematic and up-to-date summary of reliable evidence of the benefits and risks of healthcare for lung cancer.
It is envisaged that the project would be conducted during a designated undergraduate research elective period (or equivalent) or possibly as a component of a Bachelors degree. The Scholarship will be awarded for the purpose of undertaking a Cochrane Systematic Review of the ALF Lung Cancer Consultative Group, and may be undertaken in conjunction with a senior Investigator.
The scholarship will be competitive and is open to applications from undergraduate students in the School of Medicine or Nursing, Faculty of Health Science of any tertiary Australian and New Zealand facility. Applications should include a summary of the rationale for the project, its design, the expected dates of commencement and completion. The name and contact details of the Principal Project Supervisor should also be provided.
Applications will be assessed by the Education & Research Sub-committee of the TSANZ. The successful applicant will be required to submit a one page report at the end of the project co-signed by his/her Supervisor and advise the Australian Lung of any publications arising from this award.

The winner will be notified in December 2008. Grantees are expected to commence their project early in the year of the award.
The award will be officially presented by The Australian Lung Foundation at the 2008 Annual Scientific Meeting of the TSANZ in Darwin in April 2009.
The closing date for applications is 5.00pm Friday 31st October 2008.
