The Australian Lung Foundation / Lung Cancer Consultative Group
2009 Postgraduate Grant-in-Aid
For Lung Cancer Research
This grant is designed to facilitate lung cancer research by suitably qualified medical and allied health practitioners (including Nursing). The research can relate to any aspect of lung cancer including the molecular basis of the disease, its diagnosis and treatment and the evaluation of palliative strategies in the advanced disease setting.
The grant is valued at Aus$5,000 and it is envisaged that this amount would be used as either set up funds for a large project or as top-up funding for a project which is ongoing, e.g. For consumables, equipment etc.
The grant will be competitive and open to both Australian and New Zealand citizens/residents. Ideally it would be suited to an advanced trainee or clinical research fellow undertaking a research project as part of their postgraduate training in a lung cancer related surgical or medical subspecialty.
Applications should include a summary of the rationale for the study, the scientific design, intended duration and whether or not it has gained ethics approval. Information should also be provided on other sources of project funding and how the grant would be used if the application were to be successful. Preference will be given to smaller projects (e.g. pilot studies) which could be completed within a one to two year time frame.
Applications will be assessed by The Education & Research Sub-Committee of TSANZ. The successful applicant will be required to submit a progress report six (6) months into the research project and a final report on their research project at the end of twelve months. If progress is deemed satisfactory this applicant would then be eligible to apply for renewal of the grant for a second year.
Monies will be paid on the basis of 75% on the signing of documentation at the commencement of the Grant and the balance payable on acceptance of the final report.
