Slater and Gordon Research Grant-in-Aid
Aim
This award is designed to assist a member of the TSANZ to further advance curative, palliative or preventative treatment options for those burdened with asbestos related diseases.
Conditions
The Slater & Gordon Asbestos Research Grant-in-Aid shall be to the value of $30,000 for one year. It may be used to support technical staff and/or equipment, and/or consumables - involved in establishing or supporting a respiratory research project and/or contribute towards the applicant's salary. The research must relate specifically to asbestos related diseases and be conducted in Australia or New Zealand.
The Grant-in-Aid will be awarded at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the TSANZ and must be taken up within 12 months of receipt. A final report will be submitted at the end of the 12 month period with a progress report at the six month interval. Monies will be paid on the basis of 50% on commencement, 25% on acceptance of the six month report and 25% on acceptance of the final report.
Any publication(s) arising from this research should acknowledge The Australian Lung Foundation / Slater & Gordon Asbestos Research Fund Grant-in-Aid as a source of support.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a financial member/associate member of the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand.

Applicants must submit both electronically and in hard copy:
i. A completed Application Form including project details and budget which will detail how funding from this award will be spent;
ii. A Curriculum vitae.
The applications shall be assessed by members of the Education and Research Sub-Committee of the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand.

In the event of there being no suitable applicants, the Grant-in Aid may not be awarded.
The closing date for applications is 5.00pm Friday 31st October 2008.
