The Australian Lung Foundation 2008 Award for Research into the Early Detection of Lung Cancer This grant is designed to facilitate research into the early detection of lung cancer by suitably qualified medical, scientific, nursing or allied health practitioners. The research can relate to any aspect of the early detection of lung cancer, including screening technologies. Preference will be given to projects with a strong translational focus. See details and application for the 2008 Award for Research into the Early Detection of Lung Cancer The Australian Lung Foundation Melbourne Community Foundation-Slater & Gordon Asbestos Research Fund Asbestos Research Grant-in-Aid Value $ 30,000 The Slater & Gordon Asbestos Research Grant-in-Aid shall be to the value of $30,000 for one year. It may be used to support technical staff and/or equipment, and/or consumables - involved in establishing or supporting a respiratory research project and/or contribute towards the applicant’s salary. The research must relate specifically to asbestos related diseases. The Grant-in-Aid will be awarded at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the TSANZ and must be taken up within 12 months of receipt. A report will be submitted at the end of the 12 month period. See details and application for the 2008 Slater & Gordon Asbestos Research Grant-in-Aid The Australian Lung Foundation / Ludwig Engel Grant-in-Aid for Physiological Research The Australian Lung Foundation invites applications for the Ludwig Engel Grant-in-Aid valued at $5,000 - to assist research in respiratory physiology. For the purpose of this Grant-in-Aid, Physiological Research is the use of any methodologies directed towards the elucidation of organ function and its understanding in a precise, quantitative manner. The funds may be used as a contribution towards equipment, personnel or other costs incurred in the conduct of research projects. Applications will not be accepted from previous winners of this Grant-in-Aid. See details and application for Ludwig Engel 2008 Grant-in-Aid for Physiological Research The Australian Lung Foundation / Lung Cancer Consultative Group 2008 Postgraduate Grant-in-Aid For Lung Cancer Research This grant is designed to facilitate lung cancer research by suitably qualified medical and allied health practitioners (including Nursing). The research can relate to any aspect of lung cancer including the molecular basis of the disease, its diagnosis and treatment and the evaluation of palliative strategies in the advanced disease setting. The grant is valued at $5,000 and it is envisaged that this amount would be used as either set up funds for a large project or as top-up funding for a project which is ongoing, e.g. For consumables, equipment etc. The Australian Lung Foundation / Lung Cancer Consultative Group 2008 Undergraduate Grant-in-Aid For Lung Cancer Research This grant is valued at $2,500 and is specifically designed to assist either a medical or allied health (including Nursing) undergraduate in undertaking a research project into lung cancer. The project can focus on any aspect of the disease and /or its management; however this should not be a systematic review as other awards are available for this. It is envisaged that the project would be conducted during a designated undergraduate research elective period (or equivalent) or possibly as a component of a Bachelor of Medical Science degree. Suitable projects would include a clinical outcomes audit or a pilot study of a primary research question. The grant monies could be employed to assist with data collection or to offset other ancillary or personnel costs incurred throughout the period of the project. The Australian Lung Foundation / Lung Cancer Consultative Group Cochrane Review Scholarship This scholarship is valued at $1,500 and is specifically designed to assist a medical undergraduate in undertaking a research project into lung cancer. A scholarship of up to $1,500 will be offered to an undergraduate in 2008 to study Evidence-Based Medicine. This ALF award is aimed at providing a systematic and up-to-date summary of reliable evidence of the benefits and risks of healthcare for lung cancer. It is envisaged that the project would be conducted during a designated undergraduate research elective period (or equivalent) or possibly as a component of a Bachelors degree. The Scholarship will be awarded for the purpose of undertaking a Cochrane Systematic Review of the ALF Lung Cancer Consultative Group, and may be undertaken in conjunction with a senior Investigator. See details and application for Lung Cancer Consultative Group 2008 Cochrane Review Scholarship The Australian Lung Foundation COPD Travel Award A $2,500 travel award for will be made for the best abstract submitted on COPD to the 2008 TSANZ ASM submitted by an early career researcher (not more than 5 years post FRACP or PhD). The Melbourne 2008 TSANZ ASM Abstract Submission Form must clearly indicate that it is being submitted for the above award which shall be used within 12 months of the 2008 ASM to participate in an international meeting featuring COPD. See details and how to apply here for The Australian Lung Foundation COPD Travel Award The Australian Lung Foundation / Boehringer Ingelheim Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Research Fellowship The Australian Lung Foundation (ALF) invites applications from medical and scientific graduates who will be resident in Australia throughout the period of the research programme. Up to $140,000 for 2008/2009. The research must relate to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Relevant domains of research inquiry range from a focus on basic science through issues of management in the context of a clinician-patient interaction to system level issues to do with the organisation, financing and performance of the health system. All inquiry is aimed at developing and/or delivering optimal care to people with COPD. Applications are sought from disciplines as diverse as physiology, genetics, epidemiology, health economics or management in General Practice/primary health care settings. The Australian Lung Foundation COPD Research Award The ALF COPD Research Award is for original research in COPD, not previously supported by the pharmaceutical industry. The ALF COPD Research Award Aid shall be to the value of $100,000 for one year. The research must relate to any sector of COPD e.g. basic science, pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention, clinical practice, diagnosis, treatment or rehabilitation, and be conducted in Australia or New Zealand.
