Pulmonary Interstitial Vascular Organisational Taskforce (PIVOT)

About the PIVOT Group

In mid 2005, The Australian Lung Foundation’s National Council endorsed the formation of a consultative group concerned with interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis, to be administered by The Australian Lung Foundation. On 16th September 2005, the inaugural meeting of this group took place and it was named PIVOT (Pulmonary Interstitial Vascular Organisational Taskforce).

Purpose

To assist The Australian Lung Foundation (ALF) in its mission to promote lung health and provide support for Australians impacted by lung disease, through research, advocacy, education and understanding.

Core Functions

  • To increase the knowledge of the impact mechanisms and treatment of orphan lung diseases including pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary vascular disease and sarcoidosis
  • To disseminate information to increase public awareness of these diseases
  • To nurture and promote research aimed at reducing the burden of these diseases
  • To report to and recommend valuable projects to the ALF National Council
  • To increase the number of national patient support groups available to patients, their families and carers living specifically with an orphan lung disease

Operating Principles

  • Promote a broad range of medical and scientific interests in PIVOT with the ability to incorporate the best advice
  • Collaborate with other groups or bodies which have a direct or indirect interest in the prevention and management of interstitial and vascular lung diseases
  • Specific project proposals developed by PIVOT will be forwarded to the ALF National Council for endorsement
  • Provide expert advice & recommendations in the awarding of any interstitial lung disease research grants by The ALF, through the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) Education and Research Subcommittee
